THINGS TO DO

With a busy calendar of sporting, cultural and international events (e.g. International Animated Film Festival, Fête du lac (one of the largest firework displays in Europe), Venetian Carnival, The Transhumance Festival, Le Tour etc.), there is always something to do.  Gourmets are also spoilt for choice with plenty of fine dining around the lake (Yoann Conte, le Clos des Sens and Jean Sulpice at l'Auberge du Père Bise).

 ANNECY

Known worldwide thanks to the lake with which it shares a name, Annecy is a charming and bustling city located in the heart of the Haute-Savoie region. Enchantingly set on the shores of the lake, it is bustling with shops, restaurants, bars and a network of blue-green canals that lend the town a unique feel and led to the nickname "The Venice of the Alps".

There are many tourist attractions to discover, and among the most famous are the old town and its castle, which now houses the Museum of Contemporary and Regional Art, as well as the Regional Observatory of the Alpine Lakes.

LAKE ANNECY

The lake is great for watersports of all kinds.  Sailing, rowing, SUP (stand up paddleboard), pedalo, waterskiing, wake surf and wakeboarding are all available at numerous locations and the warm climate during the summer months mean that a wetsuit is not required.

If getting wet is not your thing, there is a cycle path (“Voie Verte”) that stretches most of the way around the lake (~40km) which is a great way to explore the area whilst getting some exercise. Although the cycleway does not currently go all the way around, cycling on the roads can be avoided by driving to Talloires and setting off from there – this, when combined with a lunch stop on the West side of the lake, makes for a great day out with children. For those looking for a bit more of a challenge, le col du Forclaz and le Semnoz are easily accessible from Talloires and Sevrier respectively and have both featured recently in the Tour de France.

The villages of Annecy-le-Vieux, Veyrier-du-Lac, Menthon Saint Bernard and Talloires located on the East shore of Lake Annecy and the villages of Sévrier, Saint Jorioz and Duingt on the West bank are bordered by a road/cycle path that allows you to go around the lake by bike, car, foot or even roller blades!

Considered as being the purest lake in Europe, Lake Annecy is the ideal place for water-based activities, from boat rides to more thrill-seeking activities. Relax and enjoy the many beaches of Lake Annecy and its blue-green waters. You can also indulge in numerous sports such as water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, paddling, wakeboarding or wake surfing!

Surrounded by various mountain ranges that are easily accessible by car, Maison Veyrier is the perfect base to practice a multitude of sporting activities. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and embark on one of the many hiking trips with different difficulty levels, go mountain biking or canyoning.

Or take it to new heights and treat yourself to a flight in a paraglider or hot air balloon over the lake.

Only 30 minutes from Veyrier-du-Lac, winter sports for all ages and levels can also be practiced at the ski resorts of La Clusaz and Grand Bornand, in the Aravis mountain range or around Semnoz, the “Balcony of the Alps”.
